Both sides of the medallion are completely free from dings, significant scratches, edge knocks or any other flaws. There are no blemishes or
oxidation spots; the original "gilt" mint luster is clearly visible in recessed areas on both sides. Note the peculiar "tiger stripe" pattern
on the obverse which appears occasionally on the early Soviet campaign medals; it is believed to be a manufacturing flaw that occurred when
workers of the mint "cut corners" to speed up production - not a result of age and wear.
