Badge in Commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the Opening of the New Martin Steel Furnace (aka Siemens-Martin or Open-Hearth Furnace) at the Sarkanais Metalurgs ("Red Metallurgist") Plant, Liepaja, Latvian SSR, 1975.
Brass, paint, lacquer; 23.5 mm wide. Excellent condition.
At the time of its completion in 1965, the brand-new Martin process steelmaking line at the Sarkanais Metalurgs was considered the most advanced and ecologically responsible in the Soviet Union. The badge was obviously issued to the factory management, foremost workers, and possibly to some selected VIPs in the city to commemorate the anniversary of this event. The plant reached its peak employment and output at about the same time.
Please note, the penny in our photo is for size reference.
