Excellent condition. The enamel is essentially perfect, having only some microscopic contact marks, no significant wear. The details of the USSR emblem and the nickel finish on the anchor and plaque are well preserved. The screw post is nearly 8 mm in length, possibly reduced by a millimeter or two for convenience but more than long enough for proper functionality. The screw plate is of the period and fits perfectly, although probably not original to this particular badge.
The Kaliningrad merchant fleet school, formerly located in Murmansk and known as MVIMU, was reportedly founded in 1952. Many of its graduation
classes ordered badges of their own unique design, hence a number of variations of the graduation badges for this school can be found. The
1959 badge was commissioned for one its first graduation classes - a very scarce and interesting piece.
