
First Day Cover Antarctic Drift of the Scientific Exploration Ship Mikhail Somov 15 March - 26 June 1985, commemorating the rescue of the Mikhail Somov by the Vladivostok ice breaker.
The size is 6 ¼" x 4 ½", postally unused, shows two special-issue postal stamps depicting the Mikhail Somov, the Vladivostok ice breaker which rescued the scientific vessel from its ice lock, and helicopters, part of the rescue operation. The stamps are cancelled with a First Day cancellation stamp dated 10 October 1986. The artwork on the left features the Mikhail Somov, and has a separate calligraphic inscription under it with "First Day" printed in Russian and French. The artist's name, A.
