Excellent condition. The medallion is free of visible wear of any kind. The raised details are perfect and crisp. The "gilt" mint luster is clearly visible in recessed areas on both sides. There is a tiny amount of tarnish on the reverse which is not detractive and actually adds character. Comes on original aluminum suspension with a well-preserved vintage ribbon.

This medal is a relatively uncommon "Voenkomat" issue - i.e., "catch-up" award to veterans of the campaign in the Arctic who for some reason did not receive the medal in the earlier years. Unlike the Variation 3 Defense of the Polar Region Medal, most other "Voentkomat" medals do not have a mint mark.
