Very large, standing approx. 12 ½" tall; the plinth is 3 ½" x 3" and only ¼" high. Weighs close to 3 lbs. The sculptor's name and year are impressed into the metal on the upper surface of the plinth. The finely sculpted muscular figure of the athlete is depicted at a moment of preparation for the next throw of the ball.
In excellent condition: no scratches, dints, scuffs or oxidation spots, just a tight group of small spots of tarnish on the right side of the athlete's chest.

Alexander Murzin (1914 - 2010) was a famous Soviet and Russian sculptor, graduate of the faculty of sculpture of the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, member of the Artists' Union of the USSR. Author of a multitude of small form sculptures in Silumin, cast iron, bronze, and aluminum, including portrait sculptures of Lenin and Dzerzhinsky (a privilege granted to a few, and not lightly), Soviet military leaders, Leo Tolstoy, Peter the Great, etc., etc.
