His fourth Order of the Red Banner was awarded in 1935. In addition to the four Orders of the Red Banner he is wearing in the photo, he was awarded with the Order of Lenin in 1936 for his performance in the Far East. He must have been a truly talented and thinking military commander, too talented to avoid the trap of Stalin's Great Purge. He was arrested on May 17, 1937, and "committed suicide" on September 21, 1937. As is widely known today, many of the victims of the Purge "committed suicide" by torture or firing squad, but perhaps Lapin did take his own life.

In very good to excellent condition. There are a couple of creases and very mild storage wear, but only the crease at the upper right-hand corner is visible when looking at the photo at a normal viewing angle. The rest of the wear can be seen only when tilting the photo to reflect a bright light. The verso is unmarked and clean.

Please note that the penny in our photo is for size reference.
