Stylish glass bottle for fragrances circa 1930s-60s, with brushed glass stopper and threaded metal cap.

Stands 6 ¾" tall to the tip of the cap, 2" x 2" square in cross section, in thick clear glass with the top ribs and corners elegantly cut. The neck is covered by a threaded collar on which the external cap is screwed. Inside, the fragrance is protected by a brushed glass stopper with the additional "safety feature" of a swab of cotton wool stuck inside the cap to keep the glass tightly in place. We did not test it for maximum capacity but visually, it should be around 200-250 ml. Minute traces of an amber oily substance can be seen on the internal surface of the glass of the bottle an

Minute traces of an amber oily substance can be seen on the internal surface of the glass of the bottle and on the stopper. It has also condensed or soaked into the cotton wool, giving it the same amber color. We do not have the expertise to identify the aroma still very present on the stopper and the cap, but the smell is very strongly reminiscent of the aroma permeating the interiors of Russian Orthodox churches. We will leave it as "undecided". The bottle could have been used in an apothecary, a fragrance dispensary, in a private home or elsewhere. We are only certain that the elegant simplicity of its form was a magnet for the viewers, regardless.

In excellent condition. The chrome plating of the cap and the neck collar is wonderfully preserved. It was obviously a high-quality job. The brushed glass stopper has just one microscopic chip on its bottom edge but still sits in the neck quite tightly. The neck collar is also perfectly tight on the bottle's neck.

Overall, a charming, artful and slightly mysterious glass creation that will grace any shelf or tabletop space.
