Table Medal in Commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the October Revolution, by the Leningrad Mint, 1987.

In bronze with a thin matte silver finish, 55.0 mm wide. The warship depicted on the medal is the Aurora, famous for having fired the first shot at the Winter Palace. The fateful shot cued the Bolshevik forces to start the attack that resulted in the palace's capture and the arrest of the leaders of the Provisional Government who were more or less hiding in a second or third floor dining room. The palace is visible on the right-hand side as is the Alexander Column that celebrated the victory over Napoleon. It can be seen that the medallists did not make a serious effort

It can be seen that the medallists did not make a serious effort to show the angel on the top that holds a cross!

Created by a group of artists of the Goznak [printer of Soviet banknotes, ID documents and other important official paper], the medal was struck at the Leningrad Mint. Unlike its far more scarce larger version, the 55-mm medal had a very large circulation of 21000.

In very fine to excellent condition. There are no noticeable bumps or dings. The silver finish is uncommonly well preserved: it shows minimal wear on the Lenin's portrait but has not begun to wear through on most other higher points of the relief (we have seen examples of this medal where the plating is literally flaking off of the surface!) /See Commemorative [Table] Medal of the Soviet Period, 1919 - 1991, fig. 1712/.
