Bulgaria, Order of 9 September 1944, Military Division (with Swords), 3rd class, Type 2, circa 1970s.

Gilded and silver-plated brass, enamels. Measures 55.6 mm in height (incl. eyelet), 56.1 mm in width; weighs 36.9 g not including the suspension and connecting link. Three-piece construction: the center medallion with bas-relief portrait of Bulgarian national hero Vasil Levski is a separate part; it is superimposed on the disc with green enameled band and inscription "9 September 1944" (the date of the coup d'état that led to Bulgaria's changing sides in WW2); this part is in turn superimposed on the enameled star. A very well-made and complex piece.
