Four-piece construction: the cyphers of Nicholas II and Alexander II as well as the imperial crown at the top are separate superimposed parts. The horizontal arms show the dates 1859 and 1909.

In excellent condition. The details of the top crown and swords are perfect, practically pristine. The monograms show only minimal wear to the high points of their crown portions while most of their details are nicely preserved and crisp. The original black finish on the arms is almost entirely intact. The attachment wires holding the cyphers are intact and tight. A good amount of the original gilt finish on the reverse is present in the area around the screw where it was protected by the screw plate. The screw post is of full or near full length, over 10.5 mm. The brass screw plate appears to be original to the badge or at least of the period; although it's slightly deformed and its "wings" are bent, it remains fully functional and fits the screw perfectly.
