40th Anniversary of the Creation of the Moldavian SSR and the Communist Party of Moldavia, table medal, with original issue pouch and award certificate, issued on 9 October 1964 to B P Miroshnichenko.

In bronze, 61.1 mm wide. Obverse features a young woman holding grapes, signifying the importance of winemaking in the economy of Moldova. There is raised inscription of the name of the engraver, L. Belokurov, near the edge at approximately 4 o'clock. The medal was awarded to VIPs in the republic to celebrate the anniversary of its annexation from Romania during WW2. Curiously, the medal came up with a four-year delay, possibly so as not to attract attention to the fact that Moldavian SSR was initially created in 1940, following the occupation of Bessarabia and Bukovin

Curiously, the medal came up with a four-year delay, possibly so as not to attract attention to the fact that Moldavian SSR was initially created in 1940, following the occupation of Bessarabia and Bukovina by the USSR - an unprovoked act of aggression made possible by the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.

The medal comes in original leather pouch with a fitted nest for the medal and impressed hammer & sickle emblem on the front. The upper part of the pouch has a provision for the award document which is included. The certificate shows stamp of the Supreme Soviet of Moldavian SSR, certificate serial number 291, hand-written date of issue, and the name of the recipient, B. P. Miroshnichenko.

The entire set is in excellent condition. The medal is completely free of noticeable wear. The details are perfect, the toning to the brass even and attractive on both sides. The pouch and document are likewise practically pristine.
