Khalkhin Gol, 1939, by Uslyn Publishing House, Ulaan Baatar, 1989.

Khalkhin Gol, 1939, by Uslyn Publishing House, Ulaan Baatar, 1989. Mongolian text, laminated hardcover, 7 x 10 format, 207 pages.

Excellent photo documentary on this key battle against the Japanese immediately preceding WW 2. Although it took place in a distant corner of the globe, the series of clashes at Khalkhin Gol (often referred to as Nomonhan Incident in the contemporary western sources) significantly influenced the course of WW2. Stopped cold by unexpected Soviet resistance at the border of Outer Mongolia, a Soviet client state, the Japanese turned their expansionist sights eastward towards the Americans. Zhukov proved his skills as a General here, and the Soviet Army gained much needed experience with modern mechanized warfare.

Shows great number of pictures of Russian and Mongolian servicemen with close-up details of uniforms and awards, also contains color maps and recent photos of the battlefield. Quality of photos is very good to excellent and mostly does not exhibit that typical clumsy Soviet retouching. Shows among other things photos of all recipients of the Title of Hero of the Soviet Union and Title of Hero of Mongolia who received the title for the Battle of Khalkin Gol. A highly recommended visual reference!

A superb unused copy. Both the cover and internal pages are in mint condition. The cover shows tiny amount of warping from age, not detractive, otherwise perfect and free of the usual bumps or noticeable shelf wear.
