Excellent Railway Car Maintenance Man, circa 1940s.

Brass gilt, enamels. Measures 38.9 mm in height (from the bottom to the highest point of the banner) x 26.0 mm in width. Early version featuring domed central portion which makes a more pronounced step from the oval border to the wreath. The screw post is 3.5 mm in diameter.

In excellent condition. The enamel is essentially perfect having only a few tiny contact marks and scratches, and a single microscopic surface flake the the left edge of the banner, completely invisible to the naked eye. There are no chips or significant flaking - a very unusual case. B

In excellent condition. The enamel is essentially perfect having only a few tiny contact marks and scratches, and a single microscopic surface flake the the left edge of the banner, completely invisible to the naked eye. There are no chips or significant flaking - a very unusual case. Both red and white enamels retain beautiful luster. The details are exceptionally well preserved and crisp. A good amount of the original dark finish on the railroad car and oval border is still present. The gilt finish is clearly visible in recessed areas of the wreath. The original silver plating on the reverse is practically pristine. The screw post is full length, approx.12 mm, and comes with original WW2 era screw plate maker marked "ShM Z-NKPS." In short, this is an outstanding early example of one of the harder to find badges of the railroad proficiency series.
