Badge of Outstanding Animal Ranger, circa 1950s.

Brass, enamels; 43.1 x 35.9 mm. Features heavy construction typical for its period of manufacture. The enamel and overall quality are superb. Like nearly all high level Mongolian awards of the era, this badge was made in the Soviet Union. This version of the badge features sky of turquoise, as opposed to violet blue on the other variation of the same badge. The enamel overall is slightly cruder than the over version although it still of fine quality.

Very fine to excellent condition, far better than the average for the Mongolian Ranger badge. There is a tiny chip

Very fine to excellent condition, far better than the average for the Mongolian Ranger badge. There is a tiny chip to the green enamel immediately above the horse's neck and below the pole of the lasso (uurga); because of its location and small size, this chip is nearly unnoticeable. There are also tiny contact marks and a couple of microscopic flakes, but no other significant wear. The enamel retains beautiful luster everywhere. The details of the horseman, horse, and wreath are nicely preserved and crisp showing only minimal wear to the raised points.

The reverse shows areas of light oxidation. The screw post measures approx. 15 mm long, has not been shortened. Original screw plate showing faint markings of the Moscow Artists Cooperative is included.

The badge was awarded specifically for the herding of horses, which sets it apart from many other, general purpose Mongolian awards for animal herding.
