Order of Maternal Glory 3rd cl, Variation 1, #2175, circa mid 1940s.

Silver, enamels. The pendant measures 40.2 mm in height, 31.2 mm in width, much wider than the later versions. This is the earliest version of the order, without the mint mark and with counter-relief to the suspension device. Note the extremely low serial number. This piece is among the first bestowed immediately after the Order of Maternal Glory was instituted in December 1944 and practically certain to be a WW2 issue.

In fine to very fine condition. The suspension has chips to the lower strip of the azure enamel that are not too detracting and small flakes and contact marks elsewhere; overall appearance is attractive nevertheless. The details of the medallion are nicely preserved and crisp; both the obverse and reverse show attractive, even patina. The catch of the attachment of the suspension device is broken but the pin itself is intact (with some skill, one may even be able to fashion a hook out of the remaining part of the catch).
