A beautifully designed and printed book with hundreds of illustrations: quality reproductions of maps and paintings of uniforms and battle scenes (both of original paintings rendered during the time period covered as well as many new illustrations specially done by the best of current Russian military illustrators), plus many photographs of rare awards, badges, and actual artifacts.
The text is supplemented by numerous charts and there are also many schematic drawings clearly illustrating and clarifying the subtle but important nuances of Marine uniform.
The first volume in a new series of comprehensive reference works that will finally completely document a branch of the Russian military that has not been thoroughly covered thus far by other books. (When finally released, Volume Two is scheduled to cover the period from 1855 to 1917 as well as the first five years of the Soviet era (i.e. to 1922).)
