Soviet Naval Jack, in wool bunting, dated 1989.
Large size, 79" x 50"(approx. 6 ½' x 4 ¼'). Features red field with a large "cut-out" star and hammer and sickle. The canvas hoist sleeve shows a round quality control stamp; the designation "Gyuis" (i.e. "Bow [Flag]", "GOST" manufacturing standard code of 1981; the name of the manufacturer, Vladimirskaya Factory; and the 1989 date of manufacture.
In outstanding, excellent condition. The flag is completely free of any moth damage typical of Soviet-era flags made of wool. There are no tears or soiling, and only a couple of tiny snags that are not detractive. The colors are strong

This type of flag was raised on the bow of Soviet warships of the 1st or 2nd rate when the ship was in port. It could also be used as the flag of a naval fortress, but considering the rather large size of this particular flag, it was probably intended for a large warship.
