East Germany, F.E. Dzerzhynski Centennial Commemorative Token / Table Medal, 1977.

In silver colored nonferrous metal, 33 mm wide. The obverse features a bas-relief of Felix Dzerzhinsky ("Dzerzhynski" is the accepted German spelling of his name), with his name and years of life underneath. The raised inscription encircling the reverse reads "Ministry for State Security." Inside the inscription is a quotation ascribed to Dzerzhinsky: "Hot heart, cold head, clean hands." The obverse features a bas-relief of Felix Dzerzhinsky ("Dzerzhynski" is the accepted German spelling of his name), with his name and years of life underneath. The raised inscription encircling the reverse reads "Ministry for State Security." Inside the inscription is a quotation ascribed to Dzerzhinsky: "Hot heart, cold head, clean hands." According to the Bolshevik lore, and perhaps factually true, Dzerzhinsky instructed his operatives that a true Chekist must have a hot heart, cold head, and clean hands. The coin comes in its original presentation case, in red plastic and Plexiglas, with a pull-out lid.

The coin is in superb, near mint condition: no wear to either side. The front of the lid of the case has two missing pieces of Plexiglas, apparently due to someone trying to force the case open before realizing that the lid must be pulled out. Otherwise, the Plexiglas is only mildly scuffed, not very obviously and not obscuring the medal

The coin was commissioned by the Ministry for State Security of the GDR to commemorate the centennial of their spiritual and political leader, the first Chairman of the Soviet Cheka, future OGPU, NKVD, and KGB. The East German MfS, commonly known as Stasi, was organized and operated on the same principles.
