The hat is in very good to excellent condition. Both the interior and exterior are very clean, although there are a few minor faint discoloration spots at the top of the crown that are visible only at a close inspection The gray wool of the crown is free of the usual significant moth damage and has only a couple of tiny moth nips near the piping, both of them so inconspicuous that they would be practically unnoticeable when the hat is displayed. The red band and piping are perfect. The patent leather visor is pristine. The gold embroidery is likewise perfectly preserved and tight, without any loose strands.

Overall, a well-preserved and attractive example of the less common general hat for the walking-out dress uniform.
