In olive drab wool gabardine with black velvet band and red piping. Gold filigree chin cord. Gold embroidery around the hat badge, patent leather visor with felt underside. Yellow silk tape threads through the leather sweatband to allow a customized fit, a feature unique to general officer hats. The two-piece hat badge is likewise the type specific to generals. Moscow TsEPK factory's leather sweat label shows a 1980 date of manufacture and size 58 (US 7 ¼ - Large). There is a quality control stamp to the suede underside of the sweat band.

The hat is in excellent, near mint condition. Both the exterior and interior are immaculately clean. The velvet band and piping are pristine.
There is only a slightest evidence of wear at the brim, sweat band and sweat shield but no damage of any kind. A truly superb and scarce piece
from the early Afghan War period - literally impossible to upgrade.
