Brass, "cold" enamels and lacquer; the medallion measures 43.5 mm in height incl. eyelet, 42.4 mm in width. This version of the badge is slightly larger than the Leningrad Mint issue and has a sharper counter-relief and less grainy surface on the reverse. This badge was issued primarily to participants of the Afghan campaign, although some veterans of other Soviet foreign interventions also received it in the late 80s - early 90s.
