In very fine to excellent overall condition. The enamel is exceptionally well preserved, which is rather uncommon for a badge of its vintage: it shows a beautiful luster and is perfect aside from some microscopic contact marks that are completely unnoticeable to the unaided eye. The raised points of the locomotive and other artwork are practically pristine and exceptionally crisp, showing no detectable wear. The original silver finish is present in recessed areas on the reverse around the screw post. The screw post has been reduced a couple of mms for convenience as was customary, but its remaining length of approx. 8.5 mm is more than sufficient for proper functionality. The screw plate is a replacement which has come from a post-war Soviet order and fits the screw perfectly.
To summarize, besides the replaced screw plate, it is a superb example of the Excellent Railway Engineer badge. In and of itself it is not an
uncommon award, but quite hard to find in premium condition.
