Wartime Government Postcard to a close relative, sent from Leningrad Region to Smolensk Region, circa 1944-45.
The size is continental standard 6" x 4" with a pre-printed postal stamp. The obverse shows the military censor's stamp. The letter on the verso is dated 20 August without the year, likely 1944 but possibly 1945. Judging by the contents, it was sent by a close relative of the recipient or a very close friend. It is not surprising that, written by a survivor of the Leningrad Siege, most of it is about their garden patch and the good harvest of potatoes, peas, and carrots they could now eat.
