In excellent condition, with mild attractive patina emphasizing the luster of the polished silver surfaces. The back side of the ribbon has traces of glue and paper from when the order was apparently mounted on a display. Being in the back, it is rather inconsequential; the front of the ribbon is perfectly clean and wear-free.

The Royal Order of the Sword was established on 23 February 1748 by King Frederick I of Sweden. Type 1 dates from 1748 to 1772 when the order was revised. The order was dormant from 1975 to 2023 but has since been re-instituted. Originally awarded for military bravery and long service, it became a standard recognition award for personal contributions and long service to Sweden or Swedish interests. The Silver Cross with Swords was introduced in 1850.
