The reverse is in silver gilt, with a round center medallion bearing the name of the decoration, GRAN CRUZ ORDEN DE AYACUCHO, the maker's mark "Zuloeta S.A.", and the 925 sterling silver hallmark. Two more hallmarks are struck into the 3 and 6 o'clock arms of the cross.
In very fine condition. The gilt has retained its original luster; there are no missing brilliants; the red enamel shows a few small flakes and tiny round holes, not too obvious. The white enamel around Bolivar's bust shows minuscule imperfections which appear to be incurred during manufacturing rather than a result of wear. The reverse is in near-pristine condition.
The presentation box is in genuine leather of Italian manufacture, maker marked on the bottom, with an ornately and deeply embossed lid. The case is padded on the inside. In very good to excellent condition, showing minor scuffing to the high points of the lid and minor wear to the edges and corners. The case is structurally sound, the lid fits perfectly on the bottom part.
The Order of Ayacucho (Orden Militar de Ayacucho) was established on 30 November 1944 in commemoration of the centennial of the Battle of
Ayacucho, which led to establishing Peru's independence from Spain. It is awarded for exceptional merit or distinguished service in positions
of command or for long periods, to military, republican guard and civil guard personnel.
