Excellent condition, extremely uncommon for this badge. The enamel is essentially perfect, completely free of wear noticeable to the naked eye and shows a beautiful luster throughout. There are only a couple of microscopic contact marks that are not easy to find even with a 10x loupe. The raised details of the soldier and wreath are exceptionally crisp, practically perfect. The silver finish is likewise perfect, without any noticeable wear even to the highest points of the artwork.
The screw post is over 9 mm long, of full or near full length. The original screw plate in nickel-plated steel shows the early version of the mint logo "Mondvor" and stamped serial number 2520413.
The badge was manufactured between 1938 and July 1941. The production stopped soon after the German invasion of the Soviet Union; the remaining stock of badges was issued until mid-1942 at which time the 1938 model was replaced by the Sniper Badge of the new "WW2 Proficiency" series. Unlike many other sharp shooting badges, this was a strictly military award rather than an OSOAVIAKhIM paramilitary issue. Note that the inscription "PKKA" (RKKA) stands for "Workers and Peasants Red Army".
