First Day Cover Our Home, Earth commemorating the Red Book of the USSR, 1986.
The size is standard 6 ¼" x 4 ½", published by the Ministry of Communications of the USSR. The special-issue postal stamp, created by artist Yu. Levinovskiy, is canceled by the First Day stamp, issued by the Moscow Post Office and dated 10 September 1986, ironically less than six months after the Chernobyl catastrophe.
In outstanding, near-mint condition.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species, aka the Red List or Red Data Book, was founded in 1964. The first edition of the Red Book of the USSR was published in 1978.
