Guards Badge, Pobeda Factory version, circa mid-1940s.

Brass, enamels; measures 46.1 x 36.2 mm; weighs 17.4 g without the screw plate. Like the other wartime versions, this Guard's badge lacks the fringe at the bottom of the banner; the upper and lower edges of the banner are adorned instead with a rudimentary decorative pattern making an impression of a twisted rope. This particular variety is a so-called "Classic Oval" according to Airapetyan's classification. It features a "wave effect" to enamel of the banner with a horizontal dash pattern to the metal surface underneath. The wreath is characteristically wide.

Brass, enamels; measures 46.1 x 36.2 mm; weighs 17.4 g without the screw plate. In very fine to excellent condition, far better than most surviving Guard's badges of WW2 era. The red enamel on the banner and star appears practically perfect to the unaided eye, having only a minimal amount of rubbing to the apex of the star and minuscule surface flakes at the upper edge of the banner that are nearly invisible without magnification. The red enamel retains a nice luster. The white enamel is perfect.

The details of the wreath are beautifully preserved and very crisp, with a great amount of the original gilt finish still present. The screw post is full length, approx. 13.5 mm, and comes with an original WW2 style screw plate in brass with Pobeda Factory logo. Note that the black tar-like substance around the base of the screw post was applied at the factory; it is typical of wartime manufacture and is not a result of repair. To summarize, it is a beautiful example of a wartime Guard's Badge.
