The factory to produce condensed milk was built in the northern part of the city of Rezekne starting from 1955. Two years later, it was completed and began its operations, eventually absorbing several other milk producing plants in the area and expanding its scope to include production of dried fruits, cheeses, yogurt, candy, and ice cream. Also known by its Russian abbreviation РПКК, the "combined" factory became a major employer in the Rezekne area. Its main product however remained canned condensed milk, for which the enterprise won wide acclaim and even international prizes. The PKK went bankrupt and closed its operations in 2001 due to the loss of major markets and inability to compete with the European producers.
