Award Document for the Distinguished Military Service Medal, 2nd class, awarded on 1 September 1988 to Corporal Mikhail Nekrasov (Михаил Петрович Некрасов).

The document was filled-out on 7 November 1988. It shows an image of the medal in color on the first internal page. On the opposite page, there is the full name and rank of the recipient. A blue ink stamp of the military unit appears at the bottom along with a hand-signature of the unit commander Colonel A. Sigutkin.

The unit is identified only by its code number 93613. As obvious from numerous Russian-language Internet sources however, it was the 7th Guards Airborne Division. With its home base in the Lithuanian SSR, the division played a significant role in the invasion

The unit is identified only by its code number 93613. As obvious from numerous Russian-language Internet sources however, it was the 7th Guards Airborne Division. With its home base in the Lithuanian SSR, the division played a significant role in the invasion of Hungary in 1956 and suppression of the Prague Spring in 1968. Throughout the Cold War era, it also took part in a number of major Warsaw Pact war games. From 1979-89, nearly all of its NCOs and commissioned officers completed a stint in Afghanistan, so is very likely that Corp. Nekraskov received the Distinguished Military Service medal for his service there. In 1988-89, some of the units of the 7th Guards Airborne Division took part in the "special operations" in the Caucasus - i.e. putting down the riots and pro-independent movement in Azerbaijan. After the breakup of the USSR, the division was re-deployed to the North Caucasus region of Russian Federation.

The document is in excellent condition, perfectly clean and crisp.
