Hard currency being a perpetual problem for the Soviet regime, Stalin exported various natural resources and products produced by the slave labor of GULAG prisoners, lumber and matches among them. U.S. trade unions, led by the AFL, got the US Congress to pass the Tariff Act of 1930, which banned the import of products produced by convict and slave labor. From the Soviet Union, it was pulpwood and matches. The ban only lasted one week (A. Applebaum, GULAG: History, 2003, p. 60).

Please note: we are offering this box of matches exclusively as a collectible item, not for their original intended use. We are assuming no responsibility if these matches are used as a tool of lighting a fire. We are also compelled to remind that matches must be kept out of reach of children.
