The Award Document is a soft paper booklet of standard format. The first inside page shows an image of the medal and date of its issue, 20 December 1967. The opposite page has a hand-written name of the recipient and dedication of the Committee of State Security "a commemorative medal in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Soviet organs of state security". The document is in excellent condition, perfectly clean and showing practically no wear.
This table medal was intended exclusively for the top echelon of KBG leadership and members of the Central Committee of the CPSU (Soviet premier Leonid Brezhnev was one of the recipients.) According to the reference book Commemorative [Table] Medals of the Soviet Period, 1919 - 1991 by A. Shkurko and A. Salykov, only 144 examples of it were ever produced, all struck in 1967 at the Leningrad Mint. From practical experience, the number quoted in the book seems to be too low and may be a typo, but the medal in any case is far more scarce than most other KGB commemoratives. Almost needless to say, it is almost never available with the award certificate!
