There is a very attractive even patina to silver throughout. The medal comes on a correct period suspension in brass with a well-preserved old ribbon which is probably original to the medal. The connecting link appears to be original as well; its ends are still joined with solder.
Variation 1 in solid silver was produced for only three years after the institution of the medal in 1957. Reportedly, only a few hundred specimens were made. This version of the Firefighter Medal is one of the rarest of all Soviet awards of the post-war period.
