General Otto Adolf Weisman (aka Weismann) von Weissenstein (1726 - 1773) was a Livonian nobleman of German descent, who joined the Russian Army in 1744. Initially enlisted as a private, Weisman rose in rank until in the Russo-Turkish War of 1768-1744 he was promoted to the rank of major general. He distinguished himself due to his creative new tactical moves, acting fearlessly and destroying the enemy. He was considered by many of his contemporaries Russia[s finest general. To an extent, Weisman was an example as a military leader to Alexander Suvorov, who replaced Weisman on the front lines of Russo-Turkish war after Weisman had been killed in the Battle of Kaynarca.
