The external part of the oval says НКСМ (NKSM, Russian abbreviation Narkomat for Construction Machinery Manufacturing), CCCP (USSR). The key is stamped with number 5, assumably to identify the combination of ridges and notches. A massive steel chain is threaded through the key's eye.
The lock, key, and chain are in excellent condition. The key works smoothly in the locking mechanism, the body shows no deformities of any kind, just light wear to the nickel plating. The chain has been repaired in two places, and feels quite solid.
First State Ball Bearings Plant began its production in the mid-1930s. Production reached its maximum in 1986, 124 million units annual output. The factory employed 25 thousand people.
