The crown is in white cotton, light-weight without a liner, with a black band. Black chin strap designating any commissioned naval officer rank below Captain, 1st Rank. The visor has a characteristically early-style brass "scrambled eggs" motif in anodized aluminum. The cockade is sewn-in on the band as opposed to being held by pins as would be more common. The hat badge is of the early type consisting of four main parts: the center medallion with a star covered in fine-quality enamels, separate anchor, separate anchor chain, and embroidered wreath. The sweat diamond has the impressed early-style logo of the Krasnyi Voin ("Red Warrior") Factory in Moscow showing a 1956 date of manufacture. The underside of the crown shows a stamped Size 55 (US Size 6 7/8 / Small). There is a white quality control stamp to the underside of the sweat band showing the 1st grade quality rating.

In very good to excellent condition. The crown has light soiling and minor spots that may clean off but looks very presentable overall. The interior is very clean. The cockade is nicely preserved showing no damage to the enamel on the star or wear to the embroidered wreath. The sweat band and factory label show only very light wear. The attachment prongs of the "scrambled eggs" are completely intact and tight.

A great example of a scarce early-Cold War naval hat.
