Little Angler with Fish (aka "Tom Sawyer"), cast-iron statuette by Kusa, dated 1980.

Stands approx. 10 ½" tall, the plinth is about 3 ½" wide. Weighs over 5 ½ lbs. Known among collectors as "Tom Sawyer" thanks to the boy's outfit, this particular statuette features the massive version of the plinth and, most fortunately, the fishing rod is present whereas in some other Kusa or Kasli castings of this model the fishing rod is missing (p.144 of Cast Iron Casting (1920 - 2009) by A. In excellent condition. The Dutch soot coating is still almost completely intact and glossy. There are a few tiny spots where it has partially deteriorated (left elbow, under right eye, left edge of the brim of the hat, a few around the bottom of the plinth) and a bit of rust at the left armpit. The hat also has a bit of white paint on the very top and a chip to the right side of the brim. Despite the lengthy list, all of the detriment is hardly visible and not at all detractive. The screws holding the statuette on the plinth are tight. The inside of the plinth shows some rusty areas but that can be fixed with rust remover without fear of damaging the statuette. This statuette can make a very nice pair to the Little Angler by Kasli.

Kusa is a small city in the Chelyabinsk Region in the Urals Region of the Russian Federation, famous for its artistic cast-iron castings since the 19th century and located not so far from Kasli, another such famous producer of artistic cast-iron castings. Sadly, the masters of Kusa stopped their work in 2021, surrendering to the changing post-Soviet economy conditions and yielding to the Kasli competition.
