The metal frame shows a mild and even layer of attractive patina.

Rostov (a.k.a Rostov the Great) is a relatively small city in the Yaroslavl Region in central Russia. It became known for its enamel painting in the 1760s when a workshop was set up in the archbishop's house. The artists made miniature icons used for decoration of church items. Over the centuries, changing demand caused a great shift from religious to secular in their repertoire as well as growth in variety of their products.
