In excellent condition, very uncommon for a Soviet visor hat of the 1950s period. The wool fabric is almost entirely free of the usual moth damage and has only a couple of very minor moth tracks to the nap that are visible only at very close and meticulous inspection of the entire hat. Both the gilded wreath and enameled centerpiece of the cockade are in perfect shape, and so are the wings at the top. The lacquered visor is nicely preserved showing a nice sheen and having only a couple of very minor scuffs, no significant wear. The interior is very clean and shows only minimal wear.
A very attractive Soviet hat, a true classic now associated with dogfighting Mig pilots of the early Jet Age. Early Cold War hats like this
one have never been common and they have become even more difficult to locate over the past years - especially in excellent condition.
