Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd class, Type 2 "Starback" variation (Krasnokamsk Mint), #41915, circa mid- to late-1943.
Silver, 14 K gold (hammer & sickle emblem), enamels; measures 46.8 mm tall, 44.0 mm wide. This is a very interesting early "starback" version by the Krasnokamsk Mint featuring a very deep, well-defined star shaped counter-relief on the reverse. There is a single rudimentary ray under the blade of the saber near the hilt. The mint mark is in medium size font, in slightly curved up lines. These features have been observed only on some of the very early Krasnokamsk Mint screw backs in roughly 33000-63000 serial number range. Shows maker mark "T" to the reverse of the hilt at 4 o'cl

In very fine to excellent condition. The enamel shows brilliant luster and is free of significant wear with the exception of a single shallow
surface flake at the tip of the upper left arm, nearly unnoticeable without magnification. The hammer & sickle emblem and starburst are
beautifully preserved, practically pristine. Nice toning to silver on both sides. As was customary, the screw post was reduced to approx. 11.5
mm which is more than enough for proper functionality. Comes with a WW2 era crew plate. Overall, a very attractive example of the uncommon
early version of the screw back type.
