Table Medal in Commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the October Revolution, by the Leningrad Mint, 1987.

In bronze with a thin matte silver finish, 55.0 mm wide. Made at the Leningrad Mint with artwork by medalists A. Kozlov and S. Barulin.

The warship depicted on the medal is the Aurora, famous for having fired the first shot at the Winter Palace. The fateful shot cued the Bolshevik forces to start the attack that resulted in the palace's capture and the arrest of the leaders of the Provisional Government who were more or less hiding in a second or third floor dining room. It can be seen that the medallists did not make a serious effort to show the angel on the top that holds a cross!

In excellent condition. The silver finish is uncommonly well preserved, has not begun to wear through on many of the higher points of the relief (we have seen examples of this medal where the plating is literally flaking off of the surface!)
