Jetton for "Donations in Favor of Military Air Forces", 1912-1917.

Silver Gilt and Enamels; measures 21.9 mm in height not including the chains, 35.7 mm in width; weighs 9.2 g including the suspension chains.

This version of the Air Force donation jetton has long chains specifically to be worn hooked over a suit or uniform button. The artwork features the imperial eagle lifting an early monoplane and flag into the sky. The flag may seem like a regular Russian St. Andrew's naval flag at first glance but it has an interesting feature: an additional short vertical blue line symbolizing the fifth, i.e. "aerial ocean". There are two hallmarks on the reverse: a "Kokoshnik" lady's head "84" silver hallmark with Greek letter Alpha, the designation of the St. Petersburg assay inspection; and Cyrillic letters BД ("VD") of the Eduard jewelry firm (the initials stand for Vera Dietwald, the widow of the original owner of the firm).

The enamel on the flag has barely noticeable flaking at the bottom but is overall well-preserved. The details of the artwork are perfect and exceptionally crisp; a good amount of the original gold platina is clearly visible in recessed areas on the obverse. There is an attractive even toning to the silver throughout. Original, full-length attachment chains are included.

Please note, the penny in our photo is for size reference.
