The Badge is in silver, 62.0 mm in height (inlc. crown), 49.5 mm in width, suspended from a threaded ribbon. The absence of the gray stripe in the middle of the ribbon denotes civil division. The obverse center medallion shows left-facing profiles of King George V and Queen Mary, encircled by the motto "For God and the Empire." This design of the obverse center medallion replaced the image of Britannia, in use from the order's inception in 1917 until 1936. In excellent condition: just a few tiny tarnish spots to the arms of the cross on the obverse, of which only those on the 3 o'clock arm are visible without magnification. The ribbon appears to be original and is impeccably clean and wear-free. The pin attachment shows mild oxidation, and is in perfect working condition.
The Case of Issue is in wood, wrapped in black genuine leather on the outside, embossed with letters "M.B.E.", abbreviation for Member of
the Order of the British Empire. The box is structurally sound, both hinges are tight and strong, the lid sits perfectly on the bottom part,
and the latch is in great working condition. The fitted space inside is lined with champagne-colored short-pile velvet; the lid is lined with
similar colored silk with the manufacturer's trademark in the middle. The velvet is mildly stained around the badge and pin attachment. The
lid lining is wear-free and perfectly clean. The paper tag with the wearing instructions shows minimal storage wear; its lettering is crisp
and legible.
