Border Guards, offset print circa 1940s-50s, after a late-1920s - early-1930s painting by A.

The image measures approx. 9 3/4 x 7 ½". Total size with the backing frame is 13 ¾" x 10 ½". Printed on thin but fine quality semi-gloss paper and affixed by a thin line of glue along the top edge to a thin cardboard backing inside a printed frame. The title of the painting and name of the artist are printed under the lithograph on the right. The painting depicts a wartime scene where a border guard unit is preparing to repel an attack from enemy forces pouring down the mountain slope on approach to the Soviet border.

The print is in outstanding superb condition. No damage of any kind to the image whatsoever. The backing cardboard is in excellent condition as well, showing just barely discernible corner bumps and a thin line of discoloration along the bottom edge, probably from exposure to light while in storage.

Alexander Bubnov (1908 - 1964) was a painter and illustrator, member of the Soviet Academy of Fine Arts, winner of the Stalin Award, 2nd class. His favorite genre was historic and battle scenes.
