Order of St Anne, Civil Division, 3rd class breast badge by Eduard with original issue box and ribbon, 1910 - 1916 issue.

Order of St Anne, Civil Division, 3rd class breast badge by Eduard with original issue box and ribbon, 1910 - 1916 issue.

The badge is in gold and enamels. Measures 39.4 mm in height (incl. eyelet), 35.4 mm wide; weighs 8.5 g not including the connecting loop and ribbon. Beautiful translucent red enamel on the arms of the cross reveals stamped guilloche pattern to the gold underneath. Very convex, almost spherical center medallion. The depiction of St. Anne and foliage is very detailed as typical of the Eduard manufacture. The reverse shows maker mark "Eduard" under the enamel on the lower arm and Cyrillic mark ВД ("VD", for Vera Dietwald) on the upper arm. The eyelet shows "56" gold hallmark with "Kokoshnik". Note that the "Kokoshnik" features a clearly visible Greek character alpha, designation of the St. Petersburg assay inspection. There are also two Kokoshnik hallmarks to the golden ornaments between the arms of the cross located on the obverse, one on each of the lower right and upper left ornaments, respectively.

The badge comes on original golden suspension loop with a matching Kokoshnik hallmark and with original full-length ribbon in silk moiré measuring approx. 17 cm long, 22 mm wide. There is also an original spare ribbon of the same size still stored in the box underneath the removable pad for the decoration.

The original case of issue is wrapped in bright red paper as standard for the boxes of WW1 era, with the Imperial double- headed eagle imprinted in maroon on the front cover. Includes removable fitted nest for the order lined in beige felt, and compartment for the ribbon.

The order is in excellent condition. The enamel shows nice luster throughout and is completely free of chips, flaking, or excessive rubbing. There are some tiny scratches and surface scuffs, none of which are very noticeable or detractive. The enamel and artwork on the center medallion are perfect on both sides. The ornaments between the arms are firmly attached and have not been damaged or repaired. The golden connecting loop is of the period and believed to be original to the badge.

The suspension ribbon is likewise original, of Imperial era, and is perfectly preserved exhibiting only normal age, no significant snags or fraying. Its moiré pattern is beautifully defined. The spare ribbon is in near mint condition, still neatly folded for storage and apparently never used over the past century.

The box is in very good to excellent condition, completely sound and free of significant wear. The exterior shows some scuffs and a few minor spots but is otherwise intact and very presentable. The interior is perfectly clean. The original lock is fully functional. Overall, an outstanding complete set of WW1 era.
