Excellent Cook badge, by NKPS Factory, mid 1940s.
Brass, enamels; 46.4 x 37.9 mm. This is the first type of the Cook badge featuring very tall top ornament consisting of 5 scrolls of varying size. Manufactured by the NKPS Factory.
In very fine to excellent condition. The red enamel is extremely well preserved and shows beautiful luster; there are only a few contact marks and microscopic scratches, no visible wear. The white band has flaking around the star at 6 o'clock which is practically unnoticeable to the naked eye.
The details of the wreath and field kitchen are exceptionally well preserved and crisp; much of the original silver finish is still present on all parts. The gray finish on the edge of the shield is almost completely intact. The silver plating on the reverse of the badge is pristine. Comes with original pre-1946 screw plate marked "ShMZ NKPS". The screw post is full length, approx. 13 mm. Overall, an extremely attractive piece that would be almost impossible to upgrade!
