M 1955 Waist Belt with Hangers for Navy Officer Dagger,
circa late 1950s - early 1960s.
Heavy duty black silk ribbon with velvet lining, anchors and
stars on brass buckles, larger round buckle on the front.
The way it's set up, it will fit up to size 31" (Small) when
fully extended, but it can be conceivably extended by up to
11" extra (this will require tweaking the brass fitting to
allow the extra leather reinforcement to go through -
something we would not recommend.)
The belt is in excellent condition, completely intact and
clean despite showing some minimal service wear. The black
ribbon obverse is essentially perfect, without tears or
noticeable scuffs. The velvet liner on the back is likewise
completely intact, with an exception of a tiny tear. The
velvet liner is free of mothing. The leather strap at the
end is somewhat dry and may benefit from an application of
leather preparation, but it is still pliable enough to work
and does not have any cracks. The leather strap shows faint
maker marks on the reverse which are illegible.
With the exception of occasional very faint spots of
verdigris on the back, the buckles and brass fittings are
free of significant oxidation. The anchors and other details
of the buckles are perfectly preserved and crisp.
This belt can be a nice addition to a Soviet naval dagger
and can work equally well with either a 1950s dated ZIK
blade or 1970s Bulat.
