Order of Combat Valor, Type 1, Variation 1, #700, early to
mid-1950s issue.
Silver gilt, enamels; measures 47.3 mm tall x 49.9 mm wide;
weighs 40.5 grams not including the screw plate. Riveted
three piece construction: the center medallion and the
crossed rifle and sword are separate, superimposed parts.
Features reverse with 5 rivets and without a depression in
the center (unlike the later version). Only 1000 pc of this
variation were ever produced.
In excellent condition. The enamel is essentially perfect on
the center medallion and starburst alike, has only a few
microscopic contact marks completely invisible to the naked
eye. The details of the saber, rifle and the state emblem
are beautifully crisp, show almost no wear. The fragile gilt
finish on the rays is fully present and bright. The rivets
are perfectly tight. There is attractive toning to silver on
the reverse. The screw post is full length, over 18 mm long,
and includes a correct period screw plate.
