Order of Combat Valor, Type 1, Variation 2, #1040, 1959 -
early 1960s.
Silver gilt, enamels; 47.7 mm tall, 49.7 mm wide; weighs
49.0 g not including the screw plate. Riveted three-piece
construction; displays trademark high quality of the Soviet
Mint. Variation 2 featuring two rivets and circular
depression in the middle of the reverse. Note the extremely
early serial number, the lowest we have observed for this
variation (the lowest possible number for this version is
1001)
In very fine to excellent condition. The beautiful
multicolored enamel on the state emblem is perfect and its
details show practically no wear. The white enamel on the
starburst rays has a single small surface chip near the edge
at approximately 2 O'clock position, not penetrating to
silver and therefore not too noticeable nor detracting.
Besides that, there are only a couple of microscopic flakes
and contact marks that are completely unnoticeable to the
naked eye. The raised portions of the gold rays have a few
minor dings, but their original fire gilt finish is fully
preserved and bright. There is very attractive dark patina
to silver on the reverse. The screw post is full length,
over 14.5 mm.
